City of Springtown Municipal Court Youth Diversion Program Begins January 1, 2025

  • December 30, 2024

The City of Springtown Municipal Court is proud to announce the launch of its innovative Youth Diversion Program, designed to offer young offenders a path towards rehabilitation and growth without the burden of financial penalties. This initiative is specifically tailored for non-traffic Class C misdemeanor offenses, providing preventative, educational, and community service-oriented alternatives to traditional fines.

The Youth Diversion Program is a testament to Springtown’s commitment to fostering a supportive and constructive environment for its young residents. By focusing on education and community involvement, this program aims to equip youth with the tools they need to make better choices and avoid future legal issues. Juvenile offenders aged 10 to 16 who are citied for non-traffic Class C offenses are eligible for the diversion program which begins January 1, 2025.

Key components of the Youth Diversion Plan include:

  • Preventative Measures: The program will offer counseling and drug testing options in an effort to address underlying causes of offenses such as theft under $100, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple assault and/or minor in possession of alcohol or tobacco.
  • Educational Opportunities: Participants will have access to educational resources and programs that reinforce positive behavior and personal development. This includes life skills courses, career counseling, and awareness classes to guide youth towards a productive future.
  • Community Service: As an alternative to financial penalties, youth defendants may be required to participate in community service projects. These projects will not only benefit the community but also instill a sense of responsibility and civic duty in participants.
