School Resource Officer Division
Protecting Our Schools Through Partnership
The Springtown Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) Division is dedicated to providing a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors within Springtown Independent School District (SISD).
The SRO Division is a collaborative partnership between the Springtown Police Department and Springtown ISD. Through this partnership, SISD funds approximately two-thirds of the cost associated with each School Resource Officer position, demonstrating a shared commitment to the safety and well-being of our schools and community.
Division Structure
The SRO Division currently consists of:
- One Sergeant
- One Corporal
- Five School Resource Officers
Each officer is assigned to a specific SISD campus, including Reno Elementary School, providing a consistent law enforcement presence and fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
Serving the Entire School District
While each SRO is assigned to a primary campus, the division is responsible for the safety and security of all SISD properties, including:
- All school campuses
- The SISD Administration Building
- School buses and transportation facilities
- Athletic complexes and event venues
- Other district-owned properties and facilities
SROs work closely with school administrators, faculty, and support staff to identify potential safety concerns, develop security plans, and respond to emergencies.
Texas School Safety Requirements
Texas law requires every public school campus to have an armed security presence during regular school hours. This requirement may be fulfilled through an armed security officer, commissioned peace officer, school district peace officer, or School Resource Officer.
The Springtown Police Department and Springtown ISD have chosen to meet this requirement through the deployment of highly trained School Resource Officers who serve not only as law enforcement professionals but also as trusted mentors, educators, and community partners.
Training and Professional Development
The safety of our schools requires ongoing preparation and specialized training. During the summer months, SRO personnel participate in school safety and security training programs focused on:
- School emergency response
- Active threat preparedness
- Campus security assessments
- Crisis intervention
- Student and youth-related issues
- School-based law enforcement best practices
This training ensures that SROs remain prepared to address the unique challenges and responsibilities associated with protecting educational environments.
Supporting Patrol Operations
When school is not in session, SROs continue serving the community by supplementing and supporting the Patrol Division. Their assistance helps maintain public safety throughout the City of Springtown while allowing officers to remain engaged in law enforcement operations and community policing efforts.
Building Relationships and Enhancing Safety
School Resource Officers are more than law enforcement officers assigned to campuses. They are mentors, problem-solvers, and trusted resources who work every day to build positive relationships with students and staff while maintaining a secure learning environment.
Through proactive policing, collaboration, education, and community engagement, the Springtown Police Department’s School Resource Officer Division remains committed to protecting the students, faculty, and staff of Springtown ISD and ensuring that every campus remains a safe place to learn, grow, and succeed.
