GENERAL SUMMARY
Employee performs work related to the enforcement and compliance of state laws and local ordinances that pertain to the abatement of public nuisances.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
This position receives general supervision from the City Administrator. This position does not supervise any other positions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Enforce weed and grass regulations; writes and maintains required paperwork for violations and re-inspects to ensure compliance in a professional, accurate and timely manner.
- Enforces unlawful accumulation violations; writes and maintains required paperwork for violations and re-inspects to ensure compliance.
- Enforces clear-view Ordinance violations and assists residents in obtaining compliance in a timely professional manner.
- Coordinates with Building Inspector, Fire Marshal, and other City personnel to affect the removal of dilapidated housing and hazardous structures and conditions.
- Research records located at Central Tax Authority and Parker County Clerk’s office to attain property ownership for code violations in a timely and accurate manner.
- Coordinates with Animal Control Officer with animal control code violations.
- Coordinates with Police Department with garage sale permits.
- Compiles and writes information in preparation of monthly report in an accurate and timely manner.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
High school diploma or General Education Degree. The following knowledge and skill may be gained by two years’ responsible experience as performing code compliance duties with knowledge of law enforcement and court proceedings OR by any combination of training and experience leading to the described level of knowledge and skill. Must have valid Texas Driver’s License and driving record must meet or surpass guidelines as set by the City. Must have Texas Code Enforcement License or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must have a working knowledge of Fire Code, Life Safety Code, Rules and Regulations of the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Code of Criminal Procedure and Penal Code. Must possess a proficient knowledge of fire prevention, code enforcement, hazardous materials, the City Emergency Management Plan and the policies and procedures of the Public Safety department. Working knowledge of computers and software relevant to the position. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
