GENERAL SUMMARY
To provide application of professional library knowledge and techniques to assist in the
planning, direction and coordination of all library activities subject to general policies
established by the City Administrator.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
This position receives general supervision from the Library Director. This position does not
supervise any other positions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Receive and process library cards and applications.
Check out and receive books, periodicals and other library materials.
Relate information to library patrons concerning the location of books or general library
services.
Clean and shelve books and other materials in proper order.
Assist with library programs and events.
Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and organizing shelves.
Type and file library cards, overdue notices and reports.
Mend and repair damaged books.
Answer incoming calls and provide information.
Assist in reviewing and selecting adult and children’s fiction and non-fiction, reference
sources, audio visual and video collections.
Empty book drop and inspect books for damages and calculate overdue penalties as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or General Education Degree
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Valid Class C Texas drivers’ license
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Ability to communicate in the English language both orally and in written form. Ability to
establish priorities. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to develop and
maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and the general public. Ability
to place, answer and refer telephone calls. Ability to produce reports. Ability to use a personal
computer for extended periods of time. Ability to kneel, bend, stoop and rise unaided. Ability to
lift 20 pounds.
