All-Inclusive Playground Project
The City of Springtown is currently in the planning and design phase of an exciting new all-inclusive playground project that will expand recreational opportunities for children and families of all abilities. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2026 or early 2027, pending final design, permitting, and project scheduling.
The new playground will be located within Springtown Park near Walnut Creek Drive and will replace the former splash pad facility. Designed with accessibility and inclusion at its core, the playground will provide opportunities for children of all ages and abilities to play, explore, and interact together in a welcoming environment.
Unlike traditional playgrounds, an all-inclusive playground is intentionally designed to accommodate children with a wide range of physical, sensory, cognitive, and developmental abilities. Features will be accessible to children who use mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, and other assistive devices, while also providing engaging play experiences for able-bodied children. The goal is to create a space where every child can participate, socialize, and enjoy the benefits of outdoor recreation alongside their peers.
Planned accessibility features may include:
- Smooth, accessible playground surfacing for wheelchairs and mobility devices
- Wide pathways and transfer-accessible play structures
- Ground-level play components
- Inclusive swings and adaptive seating options
- Sensory-rich play elements designed for children with varying abilities
- Interactive features that encourage cooperative and social play
- Accessible gathering areas for families and caregivers
In addition to the playground itself, the project will include several complementary improvements designed to enhance the overall park experience. Planned enhancements include trail improvements throughout the park, outdoor exercise stations located along the walking trail, cornhole and other recreational amenities, improved accessibility connections, and additional features that promote active lifestyles and community engagement.
This project represents an important investment in Springtown’s parks system and reflects the City’s commitment to providing recreational opportunities that are accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to all residents. As planning progresses, additional project details, timelines, and design renderings will be shared with the community. In 2025, Texas Parks and Wildlife awarded the City of Springtown a 50-percent grant for this project. The grant funds $300,000 of construction costs.
