Recycling Drop-Off at Citizen Collection Center Discontinued Due to Ongoing Illegal Dumping

The City of Springtown regrets to inform residents that effective immediately, recycling will no longer be accepted at the Citizen Collection Center due to repeated incidents of illegal dumping.

What was intended to be a convenient, environmentally responsible option for recycling has instead become a frequent site of abuse, with individuals dumping hundreds of pounds of trash and bulk waste, often contaminating recyclable materials beyond recovery. The image below is just one example of the kind of activity that has been occurring multiple times each month, severely hindering the city’s ability to maintain a clean and functional collection site.

This type of behavior not only undermines the city’s recycling efforts but also places an unnecessary and unproductive burden on city resources and staff who must redirect time and funding to clean up these illegal dumps. More importantly, it is a criminal offense. The Springtown Police Department will investigate these cases and pursue prosecution against those found to be illegally dumping materials at the Citizen Collection Center or elsewhere.

We understand that residents still need options to dispose of large or bulky items. The City continues to offer junk disposal services by appointment only. To schedule a pickup or drop-off, please contact:

While the current drop-off recycling service must be suspended, the City is committed to exploring alternative solutions to safely and securely reinstate a recycling option for residents. Staff will be reviewing infrastructure upgrades, surveillance options, and potential partnerships to ensure future services can be protected from misuse.
