Statement from Mayor Greg Hood on recent increases in COVID-19 cases in Springtown

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – FRIDAY, JULY 17, 2020

OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

CITY OF SPRINGTOWN, TEXAS

STATEMENT FROM MAYOR GREG HOOD ON RECENT INCREASES IN COVID-19 CASES IN SPRINGTOWN

As many of you are aware, Springtown, along with entire State of Texas, has experienced a surge of new COVID-19 cases in recent weeks. Since July 2, confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the 76082 zip code have increased from 55 cases to 91 as of July 15 – a 65 percent increase in just under two weeks. Similarly, Parker County cases have increased from 304 on July 2 to 687 as of July 15, a jump of 125 percent.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order earlier this month which requires wearing a mask that covers the mouth and nose by individuals over the age of 10 when in public with certain exceptions. The recent increase in cases highlights the importance of adhering to this order and other regulations and recommendations aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.

I encourage all in Springtown, residents and businesses alike, to continue the practices which have helped keep our local case counts comparatively low throughout this pandemic. Proper hygiene, social distancing, sanitation, and wearing a mask in public are essential in the fight against COVID-19. Since this unprecedented event began, our business community as a whole has put tremendous effort into ensuring they remain in compliance with COVID-19-related guidelines, recommendations, and restrictions all of which have been enacted for the purpose of slowing the spread of the virus and keeping our community safe.

The situation surrounding COVID-19 has been constantly evolving for more than four months, and I understand the effects that it has had on many in our community, especially our small businesses. It is essential that we all continue to support those businesses during these times, but that we do so in the safest manner possible.

The health and safety of all in Springtown remain my top priority, and I remain committed to working with all our residents and the business community as we continue to navigate through these challenging times.

Respectfully,

Mayor Greg Hood
