Temporary Disaster Damage Exemption Available for Qualifying Properties Damaged in April 2026 Storms

  • June 9, 2026

Property owners whose homes, businesses, or other improvements sustained significant damage during the severe storms that impacted Parker County in April 2026 may be eligible for a Temporary Disaster Damage Exemption through the Parker County Appraisal District (PCAD).

The exemption, authorized under Texas Tax Code Section 11.35, is designed to provide temporary property tax relief to owners of qualified properties that were damaged by a governor-declared disaster.

What Is a Temporary Disaster Damage Exemption?

A Temporary Disaster Damage Exemption allows qualifying property owners to receive a partial reduction in the taxable value of damaged improvements for a portion of the tax year. The exemption recognizes that a structure may no longer have its full market value after sustaining disaster-related damage.

The amount of the exemption is based on the extent of the damage to the property. Generally, greater levels of damage may result in larger exemptions. The exemption applies only for a limited period and is intended to provide temporary tax relief while affected property owners work to repair or rebuild.

Who May Be Eligible?

To qualify, a property must:

  • Be located within the designated disaster area;
  • Have sustained physical damage as a result of the April 2026 severe storms; and
  • Have incurred at least 15% damage to the property improvements.

Please note that not all properties within the disaster area automatically qualify. Eligibility is determined by the Parker County Appraisal District based on the information provided in the application and supporting documentation.

Documentation Is Required

Property owners applying for the exemption must provide evidence demonstrating the extent of the storm-related damage. Examples of supporting documentation may include:

  • Insurance adjuster reports
  • Contractor repair estimates
  • Engineering assessments
  • Photographs showing the damage
  • Other records documenting the condition of the property after the storm

Applications that do not include sufficient supporting documentation may be denied.

Important Deadline

Applications for the Temporary Disaster Damage Exemption must be received by August 10, 2026.

Property owners are encouraged to submit their applications and supporting documentation as soon as possible to allow adequate time for review.

Questions About Eligibility?

Because the exemption is administered by the Parker County Appraisal District, the City of Springtown is unable to determine whether a specific property qualifies or how much of an exemption may be available.

Property owners seeking information about eligibility requirements, documentation standards, application status, or appraisal district review procedures should contact the Parker County Appraisal District directly at:

The City of Springtown encourages all residents who experienced significant storm damage to review the requirements and contact PCAD if they believe they may qualify for this temporary property tax relief program.
